Coronavirus (COVID-19) impact on World Vision operations
In support of public health recommendations outlined by the World Health Organization, some sponsorship program activities have been temporarily suspended due to COVID-19. Activities may include sponsor queries and correspondence, sponsor visits, gift notifications and gift deliveries. More than 20 years ago, World Vision opened an office in Georgia’s capital, Tbilisi, in response to the country’s dire need for economic assistance, especially among the country’s poorest and most vulnerable. Today, all of World Vision Georgia’s projects are built around three strategic goals: strengthen child welfare, enhance youth participation and support community development.
Children in Georgia live with tension between different ethnic and religious groups due to inequities in resource distribution and rights. The economic situation is improving, but many youth are still unemployed (34 per cent) and often living on the street. This makes them more susceptible to trafficking and other exploitation.
