Working With Children in Zambia

Coronavirus (COVID-19) impact on World Vision operations

In support of public health recommendations outlined by the World Health Organization, some sponsorship program activities have been temporarily suspended due to COVID-19. Activities may include sponsor queries and correspondence, sponsor visits, gift notifications and gift deliveries. These temporary suspensions may affect the information you receive from us in the coming weeks and months. Learn more about our response to COVID-19.
Ongoing challenges for Zambia include deep rural poverty and high unemployment rates. World Vision provides business skills trainings so men and women can start small businesses and provide for their children. Savings groups allow members to accrue small funds for emergencies and access loans to build their businesses.

Health is another focus for our work with children in Zambia. One third of the country’s population does not have access to clean water. In 2010, we began a clean water campaign and since then more than 600,000 Zambians have gained access to safe drinking water. We also worked closely with the Ministry of Health to distribute mosquito nets that guard against malaria.
