Coronavirus (COVID-19) impact on World Vision operations

In support of public health recommendations outlined by the World Health Organization, some sponsorship program activities have been temporarily suspended due to COVID-19. Activities may include sponsor queries and correspondence, sponsor visits, gift notifications and gift deliveries. These temporary suspensions may affect the information you receive from us in the coming weeks and months. Learn more about our response to COVID-19.

Working With Children in Costa Rica

World Vison has been supporting children in Costa Rica for more than 30 years. Costa Rica is a relatively better off country in Central America with a strong tourism industry and less social upheaval than in neighbouring countries. But some communities are left behind and wrestle with deep poverty. Our focus in these communities has been on education and child protection.

World Vision Canada’s support in Costa Rica is now phased out the country moves toward raising funds internally. Our work in 2016 supported families in the province of Guanacaste, one of the poorest regions in the country, and supported children of Afro-Caribbean descent on the east coast, a group historically given less attention by authorities.
