The South Cebu West community is located south of Manila, the capital city of the Philippines. The area is hilly rugged, and rocky with limited arable land, as most of it is covered by clay soil. Agricultural production is limited, as crops cannot be grown without the use of fertilizer. Marine resources are rapidly being depleted by improper waste disposal that is also killing the coral reefs.

The heaviest rains in the community fall from June to August, with a dry season that starts in February and lasts until April, sometimes extending to the middle of May. The coolest months are November and December while the hottest are March and April. Temperatures are relatively uniform, averaging between 26℃ and 28℃.

Farming is the major source of household income, while fishing is the second. The principal crops grown are corn, coconut, and sweet potato. Secondary crops like rice, cassava, vegetables, and legumes are grown as cash crops. Families in rural areas usually raise hogs, water buffalo, cattle, and poultry in their backyards, which are consumed or sold at market.
Thanks to the generosity of Canadian sponsors like you, life in South Cebu West has improved. Your support will have a lasting impact for years to come. Let’s celebrate these accomplishments!
