With the help of your generous and loving support, life in Katete has transformed. Children and families are much stronger now. The community has met its goals, and its members are working together to tackles new ones. Your support will have a lasting impact for years to come.

The Katete community is located in eastern Zambia, approximately 500 kilometres from Lusaka, the capital city. Although the area is rural, it is densely populated, with almost 55 people per square kilometre. Rains are unpredictable, and there are frequent dry spells, droughts and flash floods. Farming is the main economic activity, however more than 80% of families are very poor and work small plots of land for subsistence farming. Families keep livestock and grow crops, but farm production is low because of infertile soils and irregular rainfall.

Floods are particularly devastating to the community because floodwaters travel quickly through ditches that have formed all over the area due to environmental degradation. Although measures have been taken to reduce environmental harm, the community regularly faces disasters, resulting in poor harvests and food insecurity.
Thanks to the generosity of Canadian sponsors like you, life in Katete has improved. Your support will have a lasting impact for years to come. Let’s celebrate these accomplishments!
