Working With Children in the Dominican Republic

Coronavirus (COVID-19) impact on World Vision operations

In support of public health recommendations outlined by the World Health Organization, some sponsorship program activities have been temporarily suspended due to COVID-19. Activities may include sponsor queries and correspondence, sponsor visits, gift notifications and gift deliveries. These temporary suspensions may affect the information you receive from us in the coming weeks and months. Learn more about our response to COVID-19.
World Vision has been active in the Dominican Republic for nearly 30 years and currently reaches more than 30 thousand children and their families. Health and child safety are priority issues. HIV and AIDS has become the leading cause of death for teenagers and adults in some parts of the country. We have renewed efforts to educate adults, youths and children in the Dominican Republic about HIV and AIDS and have involved churches in the awareness campaigns.

In the Dominican Republic, promoting child safely recently meant standing with Haitian children who were born and raised in the country, but stripped of their citizenship by the DR government and sent to Haiti, where many did not have citizenship. See below for more ways Canadians have supported children in the Dominican Republic this past year.
