Working With Children in Peru

Coronavirus (COVID-19) impact on World Vision operations

In support of public health recommendations outlined by the World Health Organization, some sponsorship program activities have been temporarily suspended due to COVID-19. Activities may include sponsor queries and correspondence, sponsor visits, gift notifications and gift deliveries. These temporary suspensions may affect the information you receive from us in the coming weeks and months. Learn more about our response to COVID-19.
During the past 10 years, Peru’s economy has grown steadily, but income inequity still leaves millions of children living in poverty. In remote rural areas and less desirable urban neighbourhoods, poverty remains deep and has led us to run programs to train adults and youth in skills that will help them improve family income.

The poverty faced by families and children in Peru takes a toll in education and child protection. As part of World Vision’s response, we train teen leaders to run child-friendly spaces in neighbourhood centers where kids can feel secure as they engage in reading, games and activities. We also invest in preschool education and initiate reading clubs to help children in Peru get a strong start at school.
