Coronavirus (COVID-19) impact on World Vision operations

In support of public health recommendations outlined by the World Health Organization, some sponsorship program activities have been temporarily suspended due to COVID-19. Activities may include sponsor queries and correspondence, sponsor visits, gift notifications and gift deliveries. Nepal is one of the poorest and least-developed countries in Asia. Poor children in Nepal are among the country’s most vulnerable citizens, susceptible to abuse, child labour and neglect. The under-five mortality rate stands at 36 deaths per 1,000 live births, compared with 5 deaths per 1,000 live births in Canada.

Malnutrition, infectious diseases and poor hygiene and sanitation affect the health of children. High absentee rates in school, particularly among girls is also a concern. We work with families in vulnerable communities to build their resilience and provide opportunities to break the cycle of poverty.
